Lawn Care Precautions
Spring is in full swing and you know what that means! It's time to give our lawns and the outside of our homes some TLC. But it is important that you stay safe while doing it, which is why we want to share a few Spring safety tips with you so that you can avoid bringing harm to yourself as well as your property.
Make Sure It Is Safe to Dig
Is adding in some new trees or shrubs a part of your spring to-do? If so, make sure that you are in the clear to dig where you want to dig. You can do so by calling 811. This national line will be able to give you an approximate location as to where your utility lines are. Taking the necessary precautions to avoid damaging your utility lines will save you a world of trouble.
Be Able to Identify Dangerous Local Plants
While you are working in your yard, it is also important to be able to identify potentially dangerous plants that could be creeping up in your yard. This is especially true if you have dogs or small children that roam your property. Dangerous plants vary from climate to climate so just take a few moments to research the ones that are common to your area. For the OKC area, where Justice Homes operates out of, it is important to look out for poison hemlock, castor bean, and lily of the valley, just to name a few.
Take Care When Using a Ladder
Many exterior projects require using ladders. Gutter cleaning, roof inspection, tree trimming, you name it. But it is impossible to ignore the fact that ladder related injuries account for a large portion of ER visits every year in the US. Which is why although using a ladder is necessary at times, it is also necessary to use precaution. Have someone spot you and be sure to avoid climbing too high to where you are no longer supported and safe.
Shield Your Skin
And lastly, while you are out giving your yard and home’s exterior a little love, don’t forget to give your skin some too. Protect yourself from harmful sun rays by wearing sunscreen, dawning a large brimmed hat, and wearing breathable long sleeved clothing. All these things combined will protect you against sunburn. And don’t forget to take breaks and drink water to combat the heat as well.
